The range of wages is anywhere from $8 per hour to $16.50 per hour. Demand for technicians should be strong into the future. The aging population and the new and varried medicines being developed require someone to keep track of interactions for more patients. We now have drugs to take for nearly every ailment. Great people skills are required as a pharmacist technician to deal with patient problems on a continuing basis. You must be alert, organized, dedicated and efficient in your work to be successful. A technician must pay attention to details and not be distracted easily. The pharmacist you work under must be confident that you can have an independent reliable nature and can handle any problem that presents itself. You will deal with the life and death of people on an everyday basis. A pharmacy technician has to deal with other pharmacists, patients, and various healthcare professionals on a daily basis. You must be team oriented to enjoy a successful career working with your pharmacist and pharmacy aids. Pharmacy technician duties are different from any other healthcare professional but are designed to supplement the pharmacist. Responsibilities include receiving the prescriptions for the patient either electronically or manually, then you must verify the information is complete and accurate, then the prescription must be filled. Special attention to detail is required. The prescriptions must be measured, counted or weighed in some cases in order for them to equal the doses ordered by the physician for the patient in question. You must then correctly label and price the prescriptions. Then the information has to be recorded accurately and in a timely manner. Errors are not allowed in this career field.
