The Illinois State Police has compiled an online database of Illinois criminal records of sex offenders. According to the Illinois Compiled Statutes 730 ILCS 152/115 (a) and (b), the Illinois State Police (ISP) is mandated to establish and maintain a statewide Sex Offender Database. This database of Illinois criminal records of sex offenders should be accessible on the Internet, identifying persons who have been convicted of certain sex offenses and/or crimes against children and must register as a Sex Offender.
The persons included in the Illinois criminal records list of sex offenders are required to register as Sex Offenders. These are persons who have been charged of an offense listed in Illinois Compiled Statutes 730 ILCS 150/2 (b) when such charge results in one of the following:
"A conviction for the commission of the offense or attempt to commit the offense,
A finding of not guilty by reason of insanity of committing the offense or attempting to commit the offense, or
A finding not resulting in an acquittal at a hearing for the alleged commission or attempted commission of the offense."
As a response to the Illinois Legislature's determination to facilitate access to publicly available information about persons convicted of sex offenses, the Illinois criminal records Sex Offender Registry was created. The information contained here is updated regularly by the State Police. So if you're looking for Illinois criminal records, the Sex Offender Registry is also another good source.
